How to Start Your Own Business or Take Your Existing Business to the Nex...

Roger Deveau:
I'm so excited to be with you here today and help bring this webinar to you. I met Cheryl not too long ago, just through a mutual acquaintance and after about 10 minutes of speaking with her, I knew I had to help her get her message out to more people. Cheryl is such an inspiration. She was just recently featured on a New York Times billboard for being recognized as being such an inspirational, awesome entrepreneur. She was just on the cover of Soul Central Magazine and she's written multiple books, started multiple businesses and all of this from a pretty difficult situation. Cheryl found herself as a single stay at home mom and she pulled herself up and made all of these things happen and now she's excited to help share with you some of the things she's learned along the way. So without any more from me, here is Cheryl.

Cheryl Jacobs:
Hi everybody. Thank you for joining me again, I'm Cheryl Jacobs and I am so happy to do this with you. So I wanted to share with you why I'm doing this because when I was a teenage mother, I was literally living in poverty and I had to go to local churches to feed my children. Cans of beans and loaves of bread and to finish out my college education on the last eight days, right before college education, I had a car that had a loose fuel filter and blew twice. So I had to hitchhike 50 miles across Ohio to Kent State to finish out my eight days of education. And I finished with honors in aeronautical engineering. And one thing that I learned after graduating from college is that I didn't spend enough time with my children. I was working, I was going through a divorce and I had to work about 80 hours a week just to be able to afford having two small children in the house.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So one of the things that I want to teach you is how you can do something where you could spend more time with your children. You don't have to work for somebody else, you can work for yourself. And I want to share with you my success tips. I've started 10 successful businesses and I want to share my secrets with you. So without further ado, I'm going to share my screen with you so we can all join along together here.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So as I was saying, I was a single mother with two children, two small children living in poverty, and I launched 10 successful businesses and gained financial freedom. So I want to help you do the same.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So these are my children. Then when they were really small, they're older now. But when I was working 80 hours a week, I didn't get to see many of the precious moments of when they start walking and they start talking and everyday life with them. So the reason why I really wanted to help everybody is so that you can spend more time with your children or your family or your friends where you have ... I'm going to give you necessary tips where you can do so. So today's online event is how to launch your own business or to scale your own business to the next level.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So have you ever had somebody tell you that you're not strong enough to do something, that you shouldn't do this and they put you down and they tell you that you shouldn't be doing that. Well I'm also a pilot. You know how many people told me that girls should not be pilots and girls should not be CEOs and all of those kinds of things. So many people did that to me. And so now people look at me now and they think that life has probably been easy for me. I did get married at 18 to my high school sweetheart, and by the time I was 19 we had two small children. Lived in poverty and going to local churches for cans of beans and milk and cheese to just to feed my children. And for three long years I was married to an abusive alcoholic drug addict. And so every single day I was always, always praying for a way to get out of this. And so that's why I wanted to help people to get out of their own way, take control of your life. I'm going to help you take away all the overwhelm and distractions that there are out there and help you guide you along the way. And I know how busy it is with children and it's hectic and you have to be good at managing your time and I'm going to show you how you can achieve that through my methods of what I learned along the way.

Cheryl Jacobs:
Where do you find the time? I personally get up at 5:00 AM so from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM I work on my business, in my business every single day. As soon as I wake up, I write down what I can do that day to bring my business to the next level, or what I can do to make my business better or personal life better. What I want to achieve for that day from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM. So you can get up early in the morning before your children get ready for school or you have to make breakfast for your spouse or whatever you have to do, get to work or whatever. Or there's other times that you can do it on your lunch break or instead of at nighttime you're ready to watch Netflix before you go to sleep. And a lot of people do this, they have been a long day and they don't want to do any more work. But those last hour or two night before you go to bed is perfect time to build on your business. You can do these things. I mean just look at how many times you look at Facebook a day and if you sit there and you write down all these times that you schedule your day schedule day. Write down for the whole entire week where you spend each hour of your day.

Cheryl Jacobs:
And I can guarantee you when you go back and you look at the time that you're spending on Facebook or you're spending on Netflix, or you're spending on things that don't really matter. You can be spending that time working on your business and improving yourself and your personal and professional life.

Cheryl Jacobs:
And one of the most biggest mistakes that everybody makes is trying ... When you're a business owner, you wear all the hats, especially in the beginning and you tell yourself constantly, nobody can do this better than me and this is the one thing that's going to give you burn out the quickest thing that's going to give you burnout. One thing that's always always helped me is delegating jobs. I have somebody, I have a virtual assistant. They're very easy to find on Upwork or Fiverr. You can find a virtual assistant to answer your emails, answer your phones. I have somebody that does my blog posts for me. I have somebody that shares all my blogs on social medias. I even have somebody that does my laundry and cleans my house so I can focus on the big picture of making my business successful. And it took me a long time to figure this out and going to Tony Robbins' events or working with life coaches.

Cheryl Jacobs:
Delegating jobs is the number one thing that's going to help you find time to focus on your business going to the next level. So at the end of this webinar if you're joining me, I'm going to offer you guys some gifts for joining me as my way of saying thank you. To go further with everything, what you need to get started, fast track to your success and have everything to have the opportunity to work with me in the end.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So who here would like to know how to launch your own business and gain financial freedom? I'm sure all of you probably would like that. Because Roger was saying before, I was featured on a billboard in Times Square and it's by POWER, which is Professional Organization of Women Empowerment Recognize and they featured me on this billboard in Times Square for about a week and it shows my two companies, the Leaf Flight Club and Kid's Party Characters. And quite honestly I was a model for 23 years and when they told me that they were going to feature me on this billboard, I cried for three days. I modeled for 23 years and I've never landed a billboard until POWER recognized me. And also I'm also a pilot as some of you may know. I have been flying since 2005 I got my private license in 2005 and recently got my instrument and commercial rating. grew a flight club that I joined out here in New Jersey.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So today I own my own business called Kid's Party Characters and I'm taking it global. I started my company with only two employees, me and my business partner and 20 costumes. And because of my drive to succeed, I now have over 250 characters in four states and have 70 plus employees. And in addition to my Kid's Party Characters company, I have also written four books, three of which are best sellers on Amazon. If you Google Cheryl Jacobs you can find my books on Amazon and it shows you my journey from being a teenage mother, living in poverty to owning nine successful businesses. My Kid's company is my ninth business and my 10th business in my Elite Flight Club, which is a private jet charter company.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So if I can do this, if I can take myself from living in poverty, hitchhiking to finish called my college education. So can you, with the right guidance you can do it too. So why is it so hard to get these results for everybody? Well, we all know that everybody's different as well as your situations when it comes to our careers. You might be a stay at home mom, you might work part or full time, you might have the desire to start your own business. And since everybody's experiences are different, I'm going to give some common example to try and help everybody through it. I want everybody to meet Susan. So let's imagine that there was a woman named Susan. Susan has three children and she's separated from her husband and her failed marriage has made her feel insecure and incapable.

Cheryl Jacobs:
She rarely sees her ex-husband and doesn't really help out with the children. So she pretty much has to do at all. But she's working 30 hours a week. So you can see that Susan obviously has a lot on her plate. And I'm sure some of you could probably relate to this. Susan's financial picture is very bleak and even though she makes money, she barely has anything leftover. Her family is living from paycheck to paycheck. And the worst part, she doesn't even enjoy working for someone else. She's making them rich while she barely is making a minimum wage. Plus she has to fill up her car, drive to work, spend eight hours, and then come back. So she's gone about 10 hours a day from her children. And to top it off, she doesn't even get some holidays off to spend with your children. So you can see that this is a pretty bleak situation for Susan and she is always searching for a way to have a better life. And she would pray as well as I prayed when I was in my situation to get better. And I wish I would've known then what I know now.

Cheryl Jacobs:
What is the solution and take control of your life and build your own business. So I'm going to show you the three pillars and how you can be a successful entrepreneur. Pillar number one is getting started. One of the biggest things, when you start your own business, you're going to have a lot of naysayers telling you why are you doing this? You shouldn't do that. You should spend more time with your kids. You know you're a bad parent for not spending time with your kids and you shouldn't be doing this. You're going to ... So the number one thing that has really helped me to become successful is surrounding myself with the right people, and unfortunately it's going to be some people that you're going to have to get rid of out of your life, including maybe friends that you've had for 20 years or even family members are going to be the negative people. You just have to surround yourself with people who have like interests in you and who are going to push you to be better than you are today.

Cheryl Jacobs:
Who's going to clap when you succeed. Those are the kinds of people that you need to surround yourself with. It is so important for your mind. So it doesn't matter how strong of a person you are, if you don't have the right mindset, you're not going to be successful.

Cheryl Jacobs:
When I started my children's company, I worked for someone else for a year and a half and I learned everything pretty much what worked and what didn't work. And he was sending out girls in cheap party city costumes and honestly the clients were very upset. So it was one of the things I learned, my costumes are all handmade by tailors and they're beautiful, beautiful costumes, one of a kind and you won't find that. So I say work for someone else in your field of interest for like a year or two, year and a half to learn the ins and outs, what works and what doesn't and just kind of look at it as like a mentorship. And do your research too. If you're planning on starting a certain kind of business, see what your competitors are doing, see what works for them and what doesn't work for them. Look at their reviews and see what clients are saying and don't mimic everything that they're doing but for take examples from what they're doing and make it your own.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So if you just take the first step, that's the first three steps that I'm going to say that you have to do to get your business going. And the next step is pillar number two is time management. So set aside work hours, just the same that you do with your family and your friends. It can be as simple as getting up early in the morning like I do 5:00 AM. I work 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM on my business every single day. Sometimes even on Sundays. Turn off your phones. Make sure that you don't have Facebook in front of you. You don't have your phone ringing in front of you. If you have children, do it when they're sleeping. This is the best time to get focused on what your work is. If mornings don't work for you, do it on your lunch break, do it before you go to bed, way after the children are sleeping or when their phones have died down the emails have died down. That's the best time to do your work on your business. Trust me if you cut out a lot of the Facebook and Instagram and scrolling and the Netflix, you will find the time.

Cheryl Jacobs:
And there's simple tools that you can use to like I will schedule all my posts in one day for Facebook. So every single day I have posts scheduled for a month in advance. So every single day in the morning, 8:00 AM, it's like an early morning hello to all of all of my clients and all of my friends. They're going to see exactly what's going on at 8:00 AM every single day like clockwork. So, and you can schedule these on Facebook, you can schedule it on Instagram, on YouTube, allows you to schedule and things as well. You can schedule email blast to on things like AWeber or MailChimp, you can do those kinds of things, schedule it so that ... You can schedule everything for the month in advance and then you can work on big picture and the other time you don't have to worry about trying to get these all every single day.

Cheryl Jacobs:
Also delegating your time. You can find somebody on Fiverr, you can find somebody on Upwork who can do your emails for you, who can do your sharing on social media, who can write your blogs for you, who can answer your phones, do your emails for you. Or if you're like me, you can also have somebody do your laundry and cleaned her home. Because I don't want to spend three hours doing laundry when I could be doing three hours working on my business

Cheryl Jacobs:
And then write it down, like write it down each week. And then once you see it in front of you, you can see where you can find the time, see how many hours you're watching Netflix, see how much time you're spending scrolling through Facebook or whatever it is that's sucking up your time. Write it out and at the end of the week, look at it.

Cheryl Jacobs:
The number three definitely is getting your mind in the right space. It's surrounding yourself with people who clap for you when you succeed, who are positive, who push you to be a better version of yourself.

Cheryl Jacobs:
And unfortunately some of the people that you're going to have to get rid of are your family members. I'm not gonna mention any names, but there's some people that are like, "Oh, go dress up like a five year old." I love dressing up like a Princess Sophia or Princess Elsa and seeing those the kids light up when I walk in there. I'll just dress a five year old every single day if I'm bringing joy to some child's birthday in their family. For the rest of their life, they're going to remember that for the rest of their life. My podcast coach, he remembers when Batman came to his party when he was a little child and he still remembers. That's one of the shining moments of his birthdays when he was a child. And make a list. Make a list of who you want to be around like good and bad. If they're nascent, if they're not, if they're helping you succeed, if they're like-minded, if they have same interest of you, make a list of these people.

Cheryl Jacobs:
Who has this, who can stay and who can go. So if you are ready to take care of your life and start your own business in a moment, I'm going to make you an offer to safe my way of thank you. My way of saying thank you for joining me on this webinar. So you can work on a beach, you can work on a beach, you can work anywhere you want because there's so many online businesses that you can start and he can work from anywhere.

Cheryl Jacobs:
And another thing I must mention is like, don't fall into this trap. The best thing to do is find coaches that are going to help you along the way. But just remember, not everybody is qualified to help you. Not everybody should be teaching you things because they don't have proven results. Find someone that has proven someone that has people that they can refer you to, that they've worked with before that they can tell you what they've done for them and things like that. There's so many get rich schemes out there and there's no shiny object at the end of the rainbow that you're going to get rich quick. I mean there are some people that do get lucky. Yes there are. But they lose it because they don't know how to work to get it because they got lucky and then they lose it all because they don't know how to invest it. So just make sure who you're hiring, make sure they have proven results and and talk to their clients. So of course you know that I own my own children's company and I have created a system where you too can own your own Kid's party characters company.

Cheryl Jacobs:
so if you are a stay at home mom who like to enjoy the freedom of your own business, build a six figure income working from home and get started at a low cost and low hassle, you have no overhead with my business. All you need is a small bedroom where a small storage space for costuming, it's not a brick and mortar. If you are an entrepreneur or an entrepreneur at heart and your current business is draining you have to work very hard to get new clients or you would like a second source of income. And with my company referrals, I do so much business by referrals because when one child's family is happy about their events, they're going to tell 10 of their friends and those friends are going to tell 10 of their friends. So my business is huge, huge on referral business. And it's a business that you could do part-time at your own schedule so you can use it as a second source of income.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So running your own kid's party characters is a business that you would consider, it's very low to start this business. And like I said before, it's massive repeat business. Really high referrals. It's super easy to operate and in less than six years, I grew it over six figures and we're closely getting to the seven figure mark. Plus, it's tons of fun. And you know the children, you don't even understand the brightness that comes their face when they see their favorite character walk into the room and they actually believe until eight years old that they're seeing the real Spider-man or the real Elsa or the real Iron Man or whatever it is their favorite character it is. And with this company too, you get a 50% gross profit on revenue, which means you take the deposit, the entertainers will get the balance upon arrival.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So you get 50% a little bit more actually on some of these events that I broke a little bit more than 50% is your profit. So if you would like to start a kid's party characters business and you purchase the license, this is what you will get. You look at it and get an exclusive geographical area. There's going to be a 90 minute radius around you and no one else can purchase that area. You're going to get right to all my costuming might. My seems trusses all of my costumes because when I first started this company, there's so many companies out there they will send you a beautiful picture of Disneyland or whatever. And then when it comes to you, looks nothing like the pictures. So I've done my research and I know which companies send out beautiful mascots I had and my tailor as well. She makes beautiful princess gowns and my superheroes, they look like they came right out of the movie.

Cheryl Jacobs:
I have a casting director on staff who will train your employees. So by the time they get to you they will already know what's expected of them. And if you, and as a special bonus for watching this webinar with me, I am also in going to ... After you have your staff in place, I'm going to personally fly to where you are and train them for the weekend. So I've created a six module online training course, which includes videos from how ... I broke down my entire company on how to run it. And it includes PDFs and worksheets. And then you can also email me with any questions that you have along the way. There's a constant support system for everybody.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So this obviously isn't for everybody. If it is for you, if you love working with children, you enjoy talking to people because you're going to have to this ... Especially in the beginning before you hire somebody to do your emails and your phone you're going to have to talk to a lot of stay at home moms or grandmas who want to book these parties. So you're going to have to be able to enjoy working with people. If you're tired of working a JOB which stands for just over broke job, this is for you. If you want to spend more time with your family and friends, this is for you. It's not for you. If you don't enjoy working with children, if you don't like talking to people, if you enjoy making somebody else rich at your job, then it's not for you.

Cheryl Jacobs:
So as a bonus for joining me today, I'm also offering you a free 30 minute consultation mentorship with me. There should be a link that's connected right there for you to join. You can do a 30 minute mentoring session with me. Ask me any questions that you like and also I'm offering you my third book is How to Become Financial Freedom by Bringing Joy to Children. And it also includes parenting tips and entrepreneurial tips and all the great features that we offer here in kid's party character. So I'm offering that free too for joining me today.

Cheryl Jacobs:
If you want to have a mentoring session with me, the link is right here and it's my [inaudible 00:27:46]. So just set up anything. If you have any questions you can ask me now down at the bottom, there should be a area for you to ask any questions and I'll be happy to answer them for you. Again, I am so happy that I could share this with you and I hope I brought some enlightenment on your day. And again, I'm Cheryl Jacobs and thank you so much for joining.

Roger Deveau:

Hurry -- This Happens Today!

Today you have a rare opportunity to get some in-depth training from Kids Party Characters owner, stay at home mom, and serial entrepreneur Cheryl Jacobs.

Take just a few seconds right now to sign up for this value-packed free training where Cheryl will reveal her best advice on how to build a successful business while being a stay at home mom.

As a regular reader of our blog, you've likely noticed that we talk a lot about the importance of mentorship when you're first starting out in business, or are looking to generate a full-time income from your business.

More than any course you can buy, podcast you can listen to, or seminar you can attend, personal mentorship will be the one thing that gets and keeps your business in profit the fastest.

And this fact is precisely the reason that Cheryl's decided to go live at 12:00 noon, Eastern Time, today and reveal to you some secrets that have likely been holding you back from starting a business, or from having success with your business.

Among other things, you'll learn in today's webinar:

  • Why your time is now, and how you are actually ready to be an entrepreneur even if you have some doubts that have been holding you back.
  • How to break through the "I don't have time" excuse that all moms have for not realizing their dream of business ownership, and where you can easily find the time.
  • How to get started today, and set your foot on the step-by-step path of least resistance to a successful business.
Why Cheryl?

At Kids Party Characters, we're moms too, which means we know at least two things about you. First, your time is precious and you have zero time to waste.

And second, when you get interested in starting your own business, you have a nearly limitless amount of people that are vying for your attention, claiming to be able to teach you the best, easiest, fastest way to build a business.

So, why should you choose to listen to Cheryl Jacobs and give up an hour of your time today to be on this special training?

It's normal, and even healthy, to have doubts and wonder if this will be just another webinar where some money-hungry entrepreneur tries to sell me something that won't even work for me.

There's a lot of that going around, which is another reason Cheryl's decided to do this valuable training.

Unlike much of the advice you'll see floating around out there, you won't get a bit of "theory," or mumbo jumbo on the fanciest funnels and tricks that are supposedly working for "everyone" right now.

Cheryl provides 100% practical, tested, tried-and-true advice based on exactly what she's done not only with Kids Party Characters, but with all 10 of the businesses she's had a hand in starting.

And, she knows her stuff. Cheryl's gone from single mom of two kids living off the generosity of the local church's food pantry, to a successful entrepreneur who was honored by P.O.W.E.R. with a huge billboard in Times Square (yes, the one in New York!), recently appeared on the cover of Soul Central magazine, and is an Amazon best-selling author with her book Escape from Darkness Into the Enchanted.

And most importantly, Cheryl's not going to set out a plan that's impossible for you to follow. Remember, she did all this as a single mom herself, and is now living her passion of sharing her "how to" with other moms who want to stay home with their children.

Who's This Webinar For?

This webinar is designed for all kinds of moms. So whether you've just had a distant thought in the back of your mind that "someday" you'd really like to start a business, or whether you've been actively trying to get your business off the ground, what Cheryl has to share with you today will push your business dream into the reality stage.

And if you've already started a business, but aren't seeing the results you'd like or need to see, this webinar is for you too. Cheryl can clear up many of the misconceptions and confusions that exist and get your business headed in the right direction.

And finally, even if you're not a mom, or your kids are grown, if you've struggled with finding the time or knowing the right steps to get started, you'll find the answers you need on today's free training.

One more thing, it's also worth noting who this webinar is not for. Cheryl didn't wake up rich one day. It took a lot of hard work and consistency. If you're looking for a magic button or a guaranteed solution to $10K in 30 days, this is not the place for you.

Cheryl's used good old-fashioned work and persistence to get where she's at, and if you want to build a lasting business, she's got the formula to show you how to experience the same financial freedom she has.

Yes, you'll have bumps in the road and times that things don't fall together exactly as you'd planned, but what Cheryl has for you today will dramatically reduce the learning curve if you'd decided to go it alone, and will give you the push you need to start now and confidently know that you're on the right path.

Reserve you seat today and commit to being on the webinar live, as that's always the most valuable way to take in the information and get your questions answered. We do understand life happens though, so even if you have a conflict, register for the webinar today and we'll send you a replay link so you don't miss out.

Commit to making this training the one thing you do for yourself today and it could be your first step to a life of time and financial freedom for you and your entire family that you've only dreamed was possible until now.

We've Got Baby Shark for Your Next Party (And More!)

Admittedly, here at Kids Party Characters we're still scratching our heads over the Baby Shark craze. But while we may feel like we could've come up with a "better" song, regardless of our lack of talent, there's no denying that the Baby Shark creators have done something right.

And, as moms and grandmas ourselves, we can attest to the fact that kids love the Baby Shark song, and can sing and dance to it pretty much non-stop.

In fact, it's not even just kids. Search #BabySharkChallenge on YouTube or Instagram and you'll find thousands of adults joining in to come up with creative ways to dance to the Baby Shark song.

And because we keep our finger right on the pulse of what children love here at Kids Party Characters, it was inevitable that we'd be adding the Baby Shark character to our collection of over 250 of your child's favorite characters.

And we're happy to announce that Baby Shark is here, and ready to make his/her/its appearance as your child's special party guest.

If you've come this far and are still wondering what's so special about this Baby Shark thing (clearly your child wears headphones when listening to her music!), just know that it's a kid video that was uploaded about two years ago that's about two minutes long and currently has 2.4 billion views.

Yep, that's no typo, 2.4 billion views.

We'll do your ears the favor of not posting the video here (it's one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and will not go away), but if you must know, you can help it climb up towards 3 billion views by watching the Baby Shark song and dance here.

3 Steps to Motivating Your Child

One of the hardest parts of parenting can be motivating your child to do just about anything other than play with friends, hang out on a screen, or raid the pantry for his favorite snacks.

If you’re tired of feeling like you constantly have to nag at your child to get him to be productive with helping around the house, doing school work, or really mastering anything he finds challenging, with a little change in perspective and following a three step formula, you can start to change this.

There’s no magic button here, it won’t happen overnight. But, once your child’s thinking begins to shift, you’ll see him starting to motivate himself without all the prompting and drama you used to have to go through.

The key is rather simple. You need to show your child that he’s in control. That he can do things he feels are a struggle or just undesirable, and that the outcome actually makes him feel good.

So, rather than always providing easy answers for your child, or doing things yourself because it’s just easier than the struggle to get your child to do it, get in the habit of working with him to find answers and accomplish tasks so that he’ll get used to the feeling of being able to do things for himself.

All you’re really doing here is establishing a new habit in your child. A habit of knowing that he can problem solve on his own, and that doing so feels pretty good.

Whatever it is that your child needs motivation on can be accomplished by this three step process.

1. Set a Goal

The next time you come up against a task your child is struggling to complete, turn it into a goal. As you may already be thinking, your child is likely to resist this very process at first, but if you can go through it a few times successfully, she’ll start to fully embrace it.

Let’s just go with the common problem of a child who doesn’t like to keep her room clean.

Resist the urge to do it yourself, yes it’s often easier, and yes, that way it’s done and you can move on, but you resent it and it reinforces the lack of motivation you’re looking to instill.

Also resist the urge to give up and just shut the door, hoping that she’ll get better at it as she gets older. Again, you don’t feel good about that and she stays unmotivated.

Let go of the  nagging and yelling and calmly declare the two of you are going to set a goal for her to maintain a clean room.

Maybe she’ll acknowledge that it feels better to have a clean room, but even if she claims not to care, get her to buy into the goal by focusing on something she does care about.

For example, if you don’t keep a clean room we aren’t going shopping to accumulate move stuff that will make your room even messier.

Or, if you don’t keep a clean room we won’t have time to go to the park, or you won’t be able to go out with friends this weekend. Obviously, pick whatever consequence is age appropriate.

2. Give Encouragement and Guidance

The control you’re trying to instill in your child won’t come from you simply pushing her out of the nest and promising her she can fly.

You want this to be a positive experience, not one full of failure, frustration, and tears.

The best way to do this is to let your child know that you’re in it with her. It’s a goal you and she have, not simply hers alone.

Encourage her, guide her, even help her so that you can ensure a positive outcome that will bring with it confidence.

When it comes to keeping a clean room, you can help problem-solve the trouble areas for her. Suggest different ways to organize things, take her shopping to purchase bins, baskets, or drawers that will help make clean up easier.

3. Reinforce Positive Outcomes

Celebrate even the small victories. You’ll be able to see progress where your child won’t. It’s important to point it out even if your child seems not to care.

And whatever her outward attitude towards you is, your child seeks and benefits from your approval. And, pointing out her “wins” will motivate her to continue on towards the goal.

So, when the only difference in the room is that you can now see the closet floor that used to be constantly covered in clothes, make a big deal about it. Point out how she’s responsible for making it happen, how you’ve noticed it and it makes a difference, and highlight any benefit it brings to her that would make her smile.

Why This Works

This approach may seem a little simplistic, and that’s exactly why it works. Because what you’re doing it making a small but crucial adjustment in your child’s attitude.

Once he sees that he is in control, he can do things on his own, and everyone likes the results when he does, then he’ll be automatically motivated in situations where he would have previously struggled.

Does this mean you’ll be able to create the “perfect” child who wants to get up on Saturday morning and clean the toilet? Of course not. There would be something wrong with any of us who had that sort of drive!

But, you will find that if you approach the things your child struggles with in this way, he can conquer most all of them with much less prodding from you and without all the stress that comes around things he doesn’t want to do.

And once he starts to feel the sense of control he has when he takes care of business, his internal motivation just might start to amaze both of you.

5 Tips For Keeping Your Business Fun

The beginning stages of your business are often all sunshine and rainbows, and rightfully so.

You’re bringing your dream into reality. You’re excited.  Everything is fresh and new and fun.

If you’re still in that stage, that’s great and I don’t want to burst your bubble or try to reign in your excitement. But, there will be those days.

The ones where you second guess your decision to start a business, where you decide to quit, where being the night manager at McDonald’s sounds better than being owner of your business.

Today we’re going to look at five strategies you can use to help keep those days from ever happening, and to get you through when you  do get hit with a case of the business blahs.

1. Physically Separate from Your Business

As a small business owner, it can be hard to separate business from the rest of your life. Part of being an entrepreneur means you’re “all in” and very passionate about your business.

It becomes even harder not to let your business take over your life when you work from home.

Most of us, at least in the beginning, don’t get the luxury of having a dedicated office that we can walk out of, shutting the door and leaving the business part of your life until tomorrow.

Instead, it seems that everywhere we turn, there’s something to do with our business staring us in the face. We can’t even resist the temptation to bring our work home with us because it’s already there.

Being available to work 24/7, whether it’s actually doing some work or just having work on your mind,
is a sure recipe for burnout.

It’s essential to physically separate yourself from your business to avoid this type of burnout.

It’s great that you can set your own hours, work when the kids are at sleep or school, but not so great when those hours translate into you being in business mode at all hours.

Make sure you put all business-related stuff out of sight and mentally declare yourself “off work” each day. While it’s nice to be able to work at different locations around the house, stick to certain physical spaces as much as possible so your mind has less trouble separating work from play.

2. Connect With Similar Business Owners

One problem most entrepreneurs run into is the rest of the world doesn’t exactly understand us.

So when you’re having one of those “I hate my business” days, your closest friends and family may not be of much help. Or, as is often the case, what they have to contribute may be unintentionally counterproductive.

Building friendships with other business owners, whether they’re in a similar or unrelated business, will save the day during the down times.

Maybe it used to be weird or creepy to have friends you met over the internet, but as much as we live online these days, you’re crazy not to develop these relationships, and wrong if you think they can’t be real and meaningful friendships.

The power of just having someone to listen and understand, to say, “I’ve been there and it will pass,” and to tell you why you should press on, can’t be overestimated.

3. Develop a Cushion

Nothing’s a bigger buzz kill to your business than financial pressures. Once you’re in a position where you’ve got to make money from your business this month or you can’t eat, the passion and excitement drains fast.

It will go a long way towards keeping your business fun if you don’t let yourself get into a financial crunch that only your business can bail you out of.

You can do this by either keeping a regular job that pays the bills until your business reaches a consistent revenue point that is triple what your expenses are, or by building a cushion of three months expenses in the bank that you know you can fall back on if there was some unexpected cash flow issue in your business.

4. Take Complete Breaks

We already talked about the importance of physically separating your business from the rest of your life, but even more than that, you need to make sure you’re taking days at a time — preferably at least a week — where you’re not working on your business.

It’s called vacation, and it’s something many entrepreneurs have a hard time with.

Not that we don’t enjoy having fun, getting away,  and relaxing, but most entrepreneurs are cursed with the control freak bug.

You can’t imagine completely leaving your business behind because no one can do things exactly like you do. If you took a week off, your business may have gone under by the time you get back.

Rationally, you know that isn’t true, it’s just a matter of acting upon it.

If you don’t have an assistant who can maintain customer contacts while you’re gone, ask a fellow business owner to monitor your support desk for true emergencies while you’re away. Let people know you’re taking a little time off and when you’ll be back and available again.

When you force yourself to go completely cold turkey in your business, it helps to avoid burnout and allows you to return from your vacation with more excitement, energy, and creativity than ever.

5. Grow a Tribe

Work to develop an audience of people who are loyal to you. This can be through building an email list, connecting on any social media platform where you have a consistent presence, and/or having a private Facebook group just for “your people.”

Your tribe doesn’t just have to be paying customers. It can also consist primarily of people who have yet to buy anything from you, but find a lot of value in what you offer for free.

Your tribe doesn’t have to be thousands of people. Everybody starts with one, and you really only need about 100 people for this to be effective.

Engaging with your people, and seeing them come together because of you and form friendships amongst themselves will give you a real sense of community. A handful of these people will become like a family to you.

These relationships will keep a sense of purpose in your business, provide you tidbits of inspiration and warm fuzzies when you’re in a funk, and will help you go from funk back to fun.

You’ll find that your tribe cares about you and appreciates what you do. Which means if you’re brave enough to be vulnerable with them a little and let them know when it’s you that needs help, you’ll be surprised how eager they are to step in and give you the pick-me-up you need.

At Kids Party Characters we're inspired by our tribe every day. Whether it’s the smile on a child’s face at one of our parties, the appreciation from a mom whose life we’ve helped change, or a simple comment on social media, our clients and supporters keep the fun in our business on a daily basis.
